Unusual Coin Item

Haven't posted in a while, been quiet busy with a load of school work etc.
I went detecting the other day and found a very small coin type item, but i only found half of it, it's quite fin but still strong. Anyway i washed it etc, and i found some very faint markings on the front of the coin. I can barely see them but i made out one of them which is a letter 'E' i think there's also a triangle on it which has been cut off by the size of the item and the markings are inside the triangle near the bottom of the half. It may just be my imagination :L
I found it in a field in St.Ouen, the problem is that the grass is so long that the coil has trouble finding any signals ! But i found the coin around the very short bits of grass around the front end of the field. I found nothing else except for a birds head ! which had maggots and flys eating it.
Once i know what it is i'll post a pic or two

The triangle shape sounds familiar, I will have a look in the books I have

I think it could be a coin/token from the East India Company

But then again im not to sure if it is a token or a coin :/ because it's really small and the markings are really faint and it's a weird colour :/
